Vishal started martial arts at seven. Now 51, he still coaches fighters competing at the highest levels in India and abroad.
Coach Vishal Seigell was once head coach of the Indian National Mixed Martial Arts team. Today, he works with professional and amateur fighters, many of whom compete at national and international events. Coaching means getting on the mat: he demonstrates techniques, trains alongside his fighters and takes part in the same demanding sessions.
That made 2024 difficult. His recovery began to slip, and it affected his work almost immediately.
Aged Seven, and Never Really Stopped
Martial arts came long before coaching. Vishal has been involved in MMA specifically since 2000. Over the years, his work shifted from training himself to training others, including athletes who compete internationally.
Knowing the techniques is one part of the job. Having the fitness to demonstrate them and keep up when a session gets hard is another.
“I Have No Choice”
How does he stay consistent on busy days? His answer is blunt.
“I have no choice, but to stay consistent,” he says.
Training can’t be something he does only when he finds time. Years in sport have made it part of his day, just like coaching. At 51, his focus is on maintenance and recovery, which help him keep up with athletes at the top level.
2024: When Recovery Fell Behind
The Asian Championship was approaching. Vishal was about 48 or 49 then. Training had started to feel different, and his body wasn’t responding as it used to.
“My recovery wasn't there. I was not able to perform in training, like I used to before,” he says.
That was hard to ignore when training fighters is your job.
Researching Longevity with a Student
Vishal didn’t look into it alone. He and one of his students began researching longevity, recovery and maintaining energy over the long term. Decode Age® came up in their research. He reviewed the range with his student and placed his first order soon after.
“I started using Decode Age and I was more than satisfied,” he says.
The Rule He Coaches By
What does it take to reach a goal? He always comes back to one word.
“The key to anything is discipline,” he says.
Make a routine. Stick to it. Keep working towards what you want. That’s his philosophy, and he applies it beyond the gym—to fitness, energy and making time to recover. His advice for anyone seeking more control over their health is to start with habits they can maintain. Motivation won’t always be there.
What His Training Looks Like
Three things make up most of his training:
- Weight training, for strength and overall fitness.
- Freehand work, or bodyweight exercises alongside weights.
- Skill sessions. Martial arts practice remains central to both his training and coaching.
What Vishal Takes Daily
Vishal reports using these Decode Age® products:
This is his personal routine, built around his own health. Needs and responses vary from person to person, so these products may not be right for everyone.
Still on the Mat at 51
For Vishal, longevity is practical: being fit enough to coach fighters, sticking with his training and giving recovery the attention it now needs.
He started martial arts at seven. More than four decades later, the plan is simple: keep showing up, for himself and for the fighters he trains.
