At 37, Gopal Karmakar was already committed to an active lifestyle. Working in IT while running regularly and training at the gym, he had built movement into his routine long before he began thinking seriously about longevity.
Over time, however, he noticed that his body was not responding in quite the same way. Runs that once felt manageable began to leave him tired earlier than expected, sometimes within the first kilometre. His endurance and VO₂ max readings reflected what he was beginning to feel during training: despite being consistent with his efforts, his capacity was not where he wanted it to be.
Rather than dismissing these changes as an inevitable part of getting older, Gopal chose to look more closely at his long-term health. He wanted to understand how he could continue to feel strong, active and capable in the years ahead, not simply address one difficult run.
That search led him to explore longevity and eventually discover Decode Age.
Building a More Intentional Routine
Gopal began incorporating DAKE and Ca-AKG into the wider health routine he was already committed to, alongside regular exercise and a more considered approach to recovery and resilience.
For him, the goal was not an overnight transformation. It was to make more intentional choices that could support the effort he was already putting into his health.
Over time, he began to notice changes in his own training experience. He found that he could run for longer without feeling as fatigued, progressing from struggling after one kilometre to completing two kilometres at a stretch. He also saw his VO₂ max measurement rise above 50.
These were personal markers of progress for Gopal, but their value went beyond the numbers. They gave him greater confidence in his ability to continue doing the activities he enjoyed and to keep working towards a healthier, more capable future.
Looking Beyond Today
Gopal’s story is not only about running an additional kilometre. It is about recognising that healthspan is shaped by the choices we make well before we feel something is seriously wrong.
For him, longevity began with paying attention to changes in his body, asking better questions and taking a more proactive approach to his health. At 37, he continues to run, train and build towards the future he wants for himself.
As Gopal puts it, “It’s been a really wonderful journey so far as a Longevian.”
His experience is a reminder that choosing to age healthily does not need to begin later in life. It can begin with a simple decision to understand your health better and act with greater intention today.
